A lip technique using a darker shade at the outer border fading into a lighter or nude shade at the centre, creating a gradient that gives lips a rounded, three-dimensional, fuller appearance. The darker border adds the definition of liner while the lighter centre creates the illusion of forward projection. A touch of gloss or highlight at the centre of the lower lip amplifies the effect. Finger-blending the transition between shades produces the most natural result. The ombre technique works on any lip size but is particularly effective for thin lips where conventional liner and lipstick reads as flat.

Thin lips that always looked flat — ombre gave them dimension I've never had with solid colour. The centre highlight is the key step.

Finger blend the transition and it becomes seamless. Looks significantly fuller without any overline.
