Damp Sponge Application

The technique that makes makeup look like skin

Applying and blending foundation, concealer, and cream products with a damp (not wet) beauty sponge using a stippling and pressing motion rather than rubbing or sweeping. A damp sponge sheers out product, pushes it into the skin rather than sitting on top of it, and leaves a finish that is genuinely difficult to distinguish from real skin in photography and real life. The damp sponge method also prevents the pulling and dragging that causes patchy application on dry or textured areas. Dampening the sponge before use is the most consistently skipped step by beginners — it halves product consumption and doubles quality.
